McLouth and Jeff. Co. Fire Dist. #9 Information

The McLouth and Jefferson Co. Fire Dist. #9 fire departments want to thank the whole community for their continued support of the Local Fire Departments. The McLouth Fire Department’s primary coverage is inside the City Limits of McLouth, Jefferson Co. Fire Dist. #9’s primary coverage area includes an approximate 55 sq. mile area surrounding McLouth, which includes almost 20 sq. miles in Leavenworth Co. These two departments are separate in governing bodies and budget, but act as one when it comes to addressing an emergency, whether it is in the City Limits of McLouth or in the Fire Dist. #9 coverage area. Each of the two departments owns its own fire apparatus and equipment, but has a unique Automatic Mutual Aid and Response Agreement. The two departments share the same personnel and command structure. All members are totally volunteer; with the only benefit of their labors being a thank you (which they greatly appreciate) and a shirt, jacket, or cap which is purchased with donations acquired from one of our fundraisers. As part of the Automatic Mutual Aid Agreement, when paged for an emergency, the City of McLouth equipment responds to Fire Dist. #9 calls as the Fire Dist. #9 equipment automatically responds to calls inside the City Limits.  Jefferson Fire Dist. #9 owns the two buildings that house all of the apparatus and rescue vehicles. The McLouth Fire Dept. has an agreement with Dist. #9 for the use of the buildings for housing its equipment. This has been a great working relationship for the past 45 years.

The members of the Fire Departments serve this community with great pride and dedication. They volunteer for a variety of community events such as: Fire and Medical Standby for Threshing Bee, Barbeque Blow Out, Parade Day, Demolition Derby, Tractor Pulls, and Mud-a-thon. They also set off the fireworks for the 4th of July Celebration, present fire prevention classes to the Grade School during Fire Prevention Week, help sponsor and assist with other local civic activities too numerous to mention. Each and every member of these two departments wants to thank the whole community for their support. Most of the Emergency Medical Equipment that is carried on our First Response Unit has been funded by donations and not tax dollars. We brag on this fact every chance we get. Thank You to our great community.
